This session is offered by Morgana Sythove, Catherine Starr and Shannon Michaela Smith
Feb 1, 2025 - 7 am PT | 10 am ET | 4 pm CET

The RISE sector of the Charter for Compassion has organized “Living Wisdom: Meditations and Practices for a Compassionate Life” to support World Interfaith Harmony Week 2025. This unique 14-day workshop encompasses faith traditions from different religions and cultures offering prayers, chants, meditations and visualizations, to awaken Love and Peace, and Compassion within the Hearts of all who wish to participate.

The “Living Wisdom” program opens with 'Brigid's Day Devotion' on February 1st honoring Brigid through daily devotional practices, the lighting of the flame, and through her inspiration as a universal Goddess, Saint, and as a Woman of Peace. We will celebrate Her day with prayers, poems, stories, and songs and a moment of silence answering the call of the people of Kildare, Ireland for a Global Pause for Peace on Brigid's Day. All are welcome.

The RISE sector of the Charter of Compassion, seeks, among its many goals:
- to focus on shared values such as compassion, empathy, justice, peace, and sustainability as common ground for collaboration and positive social change;
- to foster collaboration and partnerships with faith-based organizations, interfaith networks, secular organizations, and beyond;
- and to build coalitions and alliances that can strengthen collective efforts, amplify the impact of initiatives, and promote a more inclusive and harmonious society.

The World Interfaith Harmony Week, Annual UN Observance Week: Feb. 1-7, was first proposed at the UN General Assembly on September 23, 2010 by H.M. King Abdullah II of Jordan. Just under a month later, on October 20, 2010, it was unanimously adopted by the UN and henceforth the first week of February will be observed as a World Interfaith Harmony Week.

Recognizing that the moral imperatives of all religions, convictions and beliefs call for peace, tolerance and mutual understanding,

  • Reaffirms that mutual understanding and interreligious dialogue constitute important dimensions of a culture of peace;

  • Proclaims the first week of February of every year the World Interfaith Harmony Week between all religions, faiths and beliefs;

  • Encourages all States to support, on a voluntary basis, the spread of the message of interfaith harmony and goodwill in the world’s churches, mosques, synagogues, temples and other places of worship during that week, based on love of God and love of one’s neighbour or on love of the good and love of one’s neighbour, each according to their own religious traditions or convictions;
